YOUNG GRADUATE MENTORSHIP PROGRAMME (YGMP)

The Young Graduate Mentorship Programme (YGMP) is aimed at nurturing young graduates (Under 30 years) to apply knowledge and skills in development work. This programme enrols young graduates twice a year. It is designed to provide technical support, guidance and mentorship for 15 young graduates in the fields of social sciences, public health and statistics. A specific objective of the program is to build the capacity of young graduates (YG) to complement their theoretical skills with practical skills in order to implement these in their various areas of developmental interest. The core focus of this programme is to enhance the capacity of YG in project management, monitoring and evaluation, operations research and data management and their application in specific health and development areas in the following specialized areas:

  • Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights (SRHR), HIV and AIDS
  • Gender and Rural Women Development
  • Child Protection

The programme presents a unique fusion of learning technical aspects of development work and providing insight into the young people’s potential in leadership and personal growth.

Programme Expectations

Young Graduates are expected to complete the mentorship programme course covering 8 Modules by the end of October 2013. Graduates will attend 64 teaching hours and 32 hours of peer review sessions, i.e. physical attendance of 1½ days per week. The specific days for attendance will be arranged with the programme participants. The modules will be covered as follows:

*All participants would be expected to complete the online CITI Course on Research Ethics

Through the Training and Capacity Building Unit (TCB) a professional and personal development lecture series will be integrated with the core modules above. Topics will include Presentation Skills, Diplomacy, Etiquette, Work Ethics, Leadership, and Personal Growth etc. Graduates are expected to make every effort to participate in these activities.

Programme participants and mentors will have unlimited access to an E-Learning Community that has been specifically set up for this cohort. Upon completion, young graduates will be awarded a certificate of completion and on-going mentorship support. Graduates will be prioritized in the selection of project fellows and assistants in consultancy projects within PSRT Centre and its partners.

Eligibility

The YGM Program is open to recent graduates in the in the fields of social sciences, public health and statistics who:

  1. Are not more than 30 years of age
  2. Have completed a first degree from any recognized university in Zimbabwe and are considering career options in development work
  3. Are Zimbabwean citizens or permanent residents in Zimbabwe
  4. Have a laptop for own personal use during the course of the mentorship programme

Priority will be given to students currently pursuing careers in the specialized fields of SRH and Young people, Child protection and Women’s Development.

The programme begins on 08thSeptember 2013 and ends on 31st October 2013

Bursaries

Bursaries are available under the PSRT Centre Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) Fund. Three (3) programme participants will receive a maximum of USD$200 as part of the course fees. Bursary recipients will be required to pay the remaining balance for the course fees. To obtain a bursary, interested individuals should apply by submitting the Bursary Application Form AF2.

Deadline

The deadline for receipt of all email application materials and copies of supporting documents is:16:00hrs Friday, August 30, 2013. Incomplete applications will not be accepted.

A complete application must include the following:

–      A signed motivation letter (maximum two pages, single spaced).

–      A copy of your Graduate Certificate

Shortlisted applicants will be invited to attend enrollment interviews to be held on 5th& 6th September 2013 at PSRT Centre Training and Capacity Building Unit.

Payment and Registration

Successful applicants will be required to pay US$375.00, which should cover for the course materials, conferencing venue teas and lunches over the 8 weeks of the programme. Applicants will be required to pay 50% of this fee at enrollment and the remaining balance to be paid at least in the 4th week into the programme course.
